Mosiacs For a Cause
Art club is off to a fast start working on mosiac tables and wall hangings for the "Night For Hearts" Auction to be held in February. Students have been working in four teams. Each team came up with their own design either Licking Valley themed or Ohio State Buckeye themed. Two of the groups will be completing tables that were built and donated by David Burghy of Burghy Art Co. The other two groups are completing wall hangings that will be also custom framed by David Burghy. The Art Club is proud to be able to create items that will be auctioned off in our community to help raise funds for the Wyatt Adkins Heart Orgainiztion.
Shane and Beth Adkins’ son, Wyatt, was born with a rare heart defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Throughout his life, Wyatt underwent numerous hospitalizations, procedures, and two open heart surgeries. They marveled that a small child with half a heart could teach others the full depth of their own hearts. Spending days in a hospital with a sick child quickly changed their perspective and forced them to focus on what was really important in life. They met many amazing people along the way and shared in the pain of families who were caring for their sick children on a daily basis, the struggles of life were made real to them.
The Wyatt Adkins Heart Organization 501c3 was created to promote community by emphasizing kids first, family, and fellowship. The six months that they were able to spend with their son Wyatt impacted their lives tremendously and it is their hope to allow his spirit to live on by giving to others, emphasizing family, and celebrating community. They were moved by the compassion of our community and wish to respond by paying it forward by building a new Community Park (see park exhibit here: http://wyattadkinsheart.org/about-us/the-memorial-playground-project/). Children are the future of communities and they deserve our focus. The Wyatt Adkins Heart Organization is pleased to share the ownership of 15.8 acres of land in the Hanover area. In addition, the Licking County Library will be placing a 24-hour electronic library within the park (see attached information), again promoting community and literacy!
The WAHO Board voted to undertake a Capital Campaign to raise the 1.9 million dollars needed to begin construction on this Community Park. The campaign in its early stage has been extremely successful and will continue. A Night for Hearts is a large annual fundraiser that typically raises $20,000-$25,000 each year.
